Promising Futures

Preventing families from becoming homeless in the first place.

Promising Futures is our shelter prevention/diversion program. The prevention piece aims to keep a family stable in their own housing and avoid becoming homeless while the diversion piece assists families identified as homeless who have their own temporary shelter such as living doubled up with friends/family or staying in a motel. Key components to Promising Futures:

Housing Stabilization - Engagement with a landlord; conflict mediation with a landlord or with housemates where the family is staying; tenant legal services.

Financial Assistance - Short-term rental assistance; security deposits or first month’s rent; utility payments; other financial assistance such as vehicle repair or a public transportation pass, if they relate directly to housing stability. Successful outcomes include; preventing 80% of families served from becoming displaced from their current homes; preventing 85% of families served from entering a shelter; empowering families by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to overcome barriers to sustain stable permanent housing.

Financial Literacy classes are mandatory for all applicants seeking funds.
